Why IRONMAN with Mike Weiss

Something Personal I’d Like to Share

For those of you who know me, I am usually a pretty private person.  I’d rather hear about what others are doing, than to talk about myself.  However, this time I would like to share something with you.

As you know, I’ve always had a passion for fitness.  So this coming Sunday, October 9th,   I will be participating in my first Ironman in Louisville, Kentucky.  Having said this, I’d like to ask for your help in making this more meaningful.

Unfortunately, cancer has touched so many of us and our families. On a personal note, both my wife and I have lost family and friends to this awful disease.  To challenge myself and add even more meaning to this race, I’ve made a pledge to the American Cancer Society for each mile I complete. I’ll have plenty of reflecting time as I cover the 140.6 miles via swim/bike/run… although, I can’t say that I am looking forward to the cold water.

I would like to invite you to join me, at least in spirit, to help raise money to support the American Cancer Society.  If your family or friends have ever been impacted by Cancer and you would like to support the American Cancer Society, please click here. And please…  let me know, so that I can reach out to thank you.

Thanks so much for your support and helping inspire me to the finish line.  I’ll be thinking of you as I am diving into the cold, Ohio River at 7am…  Stay Well!

  1. HI Mike,

How exciting! I can’t wait to hear about your first Ironman. With all of your training and dedication, it is sure to be a wonderful, albeit tiring, experience. Just remember your wetsuit will be a great friend in the cold weather. You will be grateful for the cooler temperatures as you clock the miles riding and running.

    Wishing you the very best!

Apologize for the delayed reaction. I stand in awe of you and your commitment. I,too, have lost my dear parents to this insidious disease. Sorry I missed the opportunity to pledge on your behalf but will happily contribute in yours and their honour. Proud to know you.
