Success Story: 40 Pounds Down!

Being able to be a part of the amazing journeys of so many of our clients is one of the most fulfilling parts of what we do. We are excited to share some of these success stories with you and hope they will inspire you as much as they have us.

American Health & Wellness Group Senior Health Coach, Shelly Cherry sits down and interviews the amazing Don Denny of our client, Echo Supply

Don is down 40 lbs and has lowered his A1C from 12 to 5.7! He was on a higher tier medication and is now on generic.

Don, tell me why you began on this health and wellness journey?

I had not been to a doctor in a long time. When I decided to go, my doctor ordered blood work. The results showed that I was a type 2 diabetic and my A1C was 12. Diabetes runs in my family and I have seen the damage it causes when left unchecked. I decided it was time to change my eating habits and adjust to a new lifestyle. That is when I decided to reach out to Shelly

Did your health coach support and assist you?

Yes, Shelly helped with nutrition and understanding of what good carbs to eat vs bad carbs. Also learning how carbs can affect your blood sugar

What major changes have you made?

I have changed my diet and count carbs for the day. I plan my meals throughout the week. I have stopped drinking soda and sugary drinks and limit sugar intake. I have joined a gym and hired a trainer. I am currently working on strengthening my core. I go the gym every other day.

This does become a lifestyle, do you feel like you have truly made a difference in your life?

I think it has made a difference! I am able to keep up with my nieces and nephew. I can walk longer distances without getting tired quickly. This is especially true when doing outdoor activities.

How are you feeling overall?

I have more energy during the day. However, I do get tired sooner in the evening so I cannot stay up late like I used to.

Do you find Shelly’s seminars helpful?

Yes, they have also reinforced what my trainer and nutritionist have stated about diet and exercise.

What other goals do you have?

I want to do some rucking, mud runs and compete in a Spartan race! These goals will help achieve the health success I want.

I have loved working with Don! Once he approached me about working together, I knew he was ready to get started based off of his story. He was really nervous to develop the lifestyle that his family had led and did not want to feel that way. I also wanted to help him lower his A1C and he start feeling better immediately! After many basic changes, Don started seeing results immediately. A year later, he is on a generic form of medications for his diabetes and his ultimate goal would be to get off the meds all together! I am very excited to continue and work with Don and helping lead his new healthy lifestyle.
